Celebrity Solstice Cruise Review: A Class Above the Rest
I have always had a deep passion for travel, and alongside my husband, we have ventured across the globe by trains, planes, and automobiles. In recent years, however, our love for cruising has taken centre stage. There is something magical about being at sea, waking up in a new destination without the hassle of packing and unpacking, and having everything you need within reach.
Every cruise line has its unique charm, catering to different travellers. Some ships are designed for thrill-seekers, boasting skydiving simulators, wave riders, and even bumper cars. Others are floating party hubs, where the deluxe beverage package is the highlight. Then, there are the more refined experiences, and this is where Celebrity Cruises comes into play.
We had never sailed with Celebrity before, and when the opportunity arose to spend 25 days aboard the Celebrity Solstice, we decided to give it a go. This was not a journey about the destinations we have visited most of these places several times but rather about immersing ourselves in the experience of life aboard this renowned ship.
Embarking on a Grand Adventure
Our journey began in Singapore, where we embarked with a sense of excitement and curiosity. The embarkation process was impressively smooth. Within thirty minutes, we had cleared immigration and were stepping aboard the Solstice, greeted by friendly faces and a glass of bubbly. Whether this efficiency was a reflection of Singapore’s well-organised port or Celebrity’s streamlined procedures, I couldn’t say, but it set the perfect tone for what was to come.
Stepping onto the ship felt like entering a grand floating hotel. The décor was elegant, with gleaming marble floors, plush carpets, and sophisticated furnishings that exuded a sense of luxury without feeling pretentious. The grandeur of the atrium, with its stylish lighting and bustling atmosphere, created an immediate impression that we were about to embark on something truly special.
A Cabin That Felt Like Home
Our first stateroom was located on Deck 3, close to guest services and the main dining room. Although we didn’t have a balcony, the large, unobstructed window let in plenty of light, making the space feel expansive. It had a cozy yet stylish design, with plush carpeting, rich teak furnishings, and a comfortable couch adorned with soft throw pillows.
The bathroom was more spacious than I expected, stocked with high-quality body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. But it was the little things that truly impressed me the abundance of fluffy white towels, a good-quality hairdryer, real glasses in both the bathroom and the cabin, and even a thoughtfully provided Celebrity-branded canvas tote bag, perfect for shore excursions.
One of the most delightful surprises was discovering a beautifully packaged silver locket from the onboard boutique, Effy. My first thought was, how much is this going to cost me? But to my amazement, it was a complimentary gift, and throughout the cruise, we could collect charms to place inside. The only real challenge was resisting the temptation to splurge on the real diamonds that just happened to be placed strategically next to the complimentary charms.
Midway through our journey, we moved to a balcony stateroom on Deck 6. The room itself was nearly identical, but the addition of a private balcony changed everything. Sitting outside in the early morning, coffee in hand, watching the endless ocean stretch before me, was pure bliss. There is something about the open sea that makes time slowdown in the best possible way.
Culinary Delights at Sea
One of the greatest joys of cruising is the food, and the dining experience aboard Solstice exceeded all expectations. While there were specialty dining options available for an extra charge, we found the included dining venues to be more than satisfying.
Breakfast in the main dining room became a cherished ritual. The morning began with a selection of freshly baked pastries and muffins, followed by made-to-order Eggs Benedict or steaming hot oatmeal, all served by waitstaff who were genuinely warm and welcoming. They greeted us each morning with cheerful smiles and well wishes for the day ahead, setting a lovely tone for whatever adventure awaited.
Lunch on sea days was an equally enjoyable affair. The main dining room menu changed daily, offering a variety of delicious choices, from fresh Caesar salads to gourmet burgers and pasta dishes. The attention to detail was evident in every plate, and there was something incredibly indulgent about taking a leisurely lunch while the ship gently rocked beneath us.
Dinner, however, was the true highlight. Each evening, we eagerly anticipated the menu, which featured everything from succulent lobster tails to tender Australian lamb. Unlike some cruise lines where you get the feeling that the waitstaff are just going through the motions in hopes of a larger tip, here, it was clear that they genuinely took pride in creating a memorable dining experience.
Beyond the main dining room, the ship offered an impressive array of other options. The pool deck grill quickly became a favourite for its juicy cheeseburgers and perfectly grilled hot dogs. Late-night cravings were easily satisfied at the pizza station, where the aroma of freshly baked dough filled the air.
The ice cream corner was a delightful surprise, offering homemade gelato and sorbets that changed daily. And then there was my hidden gem the Spa Café, a quiet retreat serving fresh smoothies, yogurt parfaits, wraps, and light salads. It felt like the perfect balance to the decadent feasts enjoyed elsewhere on the ship.
Even the buffet, which I usually avoid on cruises, impressed me. The Oceanview Café was consistently well-stocked with fresh, high-quality food, and the variety was exceptional. Each day, the buffet featured a different country’s cuisine, and there was always an abundance of fresh seafood think lobster rolls, shrimp, and grilled fish. The only downside? Watching fellow passengers pile their plates sky-high with more food than they could possibly eat. Just because you can take it all doesn’t mean you should.
Entertainment and Activities: A Perfect Balance
Cruising can be as action-packed or as relaxing as you choose, and the Celebrity Solstice struck the perfect balance. While some ships focus on boisterous belly-flop contests and raucous poolside activities, this one offered a more refined selection of entertainment. Morning yoga and Tai Chi sessions were held on the lawn deck yes, this ship had a real grass lawn! It was a wonderfully peaceful spot to unwind and enjoy the sea breeze.
One of the most unique onboard experiences was the Glass Blowing Studio, where guests could watch live glass-blowing demonstrations or even create their own custom pieces. It was mesmerizing to watch skilled artists shape molten glass into delicate works of art.
But for me, the real highlights were the Beyond the Podium speaker series and the nightly entertainment. We attended fascinating talks from a historian who delved into the rich cultural histories of the destinations we visited, as well as an engaging presentation on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence from a talented author and speaker (who, I might add, was absolutely brilliant).
As for the evening shows, they were nothing short of spectacular. The ship’s talented singers and dancers delivered four different production performances that rivalled anything I’ve seen on land. Each show was meticulously choreographed, featuring dazzling costumes, impressive stage effects, and a level of professionalism that truly set them apart. From high-energy dance routines to emotive musical numbers, the production team ensured there was something for everyone.
On nights when guest performers took the stage, we were treated to West End and Broadway-calibre acts that left us in awe. There was an electric atmosphere in the theatre, as anticipation built for each performance. The guest artists ranged from world-class vocalists to skilled instrumentalists and even comedic entertainers who had the audience roaring with laughter. The diversity of talent was remarkable, and it was evident that Celebrity had handpicked the very best in the industry.
What truly impressed me was the seamless integration of live music throughout the performances. The ship’s orchestra was phenomenal, providing a rich and immersive musical experience that enhanced every act. Their ability to adapt to different genres and styles was a testament to their expertise, and they brought each performance to life in a way that recorded backing tracks simply couldn’t match.
Even after doing back-to-back cruises, I found myself eagerly watching some of the shows a second time—they were just that good. The experience of sitting in a plush theatre seat, cocktail in hand, as a world-class production unfolded before me, was an absolute highlight of the cruise. Whether it was the jaw-dropping acrobatics of a cirque-style show or the heartwarming nostalgia of a tribute performance, the entertainment on the Celebrity Solstice was truly in a league of its own.
Final Thoughts: Would I Cruise with Celebrity Again?
Without a doubt, yes.
The Celebrity Solstice may not be the newest or flashiest ship on the seas, but she offers something even more valuable—exceptional quality, impeccable service, and an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. Unlike some of the larger, more gimmick-driven cruise ships that focus on flashy attractions, Solstice delivers a refined experience where every detail has been thoughtfully considered. From the moment you step aboard, there is an undeniable sense of elegance, from the polished wood accents and sparkling chandeliers to the soft jazz music playing in the background as you explore the ship’s beautifully designed spaces.
From the outstanding dining experiences to the high-calibre entertainment, every element of the cruise felt thoughtfully curated. The culinary offerings were a delight, whether indulging in fine dining at the main restaurant, grabbing a quick gourmet bite at one of the many specialty eateries, or enjoying a perfectly brewed coffee while watching the waves roll by.
The entertainment, from Broadway-worthy shows to captivating guest lectures, ensured that there was never a dull moment. Even on sea days, when the vast ocean stretched in every direction, there was a sense of ease and contentment that only a ship like Solstice could provide.
This was not just another cruise it was an experience that reminded me why I love being at sea. The gentle sway of the ship, the salty breeze in the air, and the ever-changing scenery combined to create a journey that felt almost poetic. It was a chance to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with the simple joys of travel watching a golden sunset paint the sky, listening to the distant call of seabirds, and sharing laughter with fellow passengers over an exquisite meal. The magic of cruising is not just about the destinations it’s about the journey itself.
Solstice would not be the ship for everyone however for me I feel they have got it right with a great balance. The quality and service in my opinion is above others I have been on and I will certainly be sailing with Celebrity again
