Cruising to New Zealand on the Ovation of the Seas

Day 1 & 2: Setting Sail and Sea Days

Our adventure began as we boarded the impressive Ovation of the Seas in Sydney, a majestic Royal Caribbean ship ready for the Australian summer. As we embarked towards New Zealand, the first two days at sea were a perfect chance to dive into the ship’s luxurious amenities.

The Solarium, an adults-only area, offered a serene pool and jacuzzi, ideal for unwinding. For those seeking pampering, the spa provided blissful massages. Days were filled with lively Bingo at the Schooner bar and enriching lectures in the 270 lounge. The evenings sparkled with top-notch entertainment in the Theater – musicals like “A Beautiful Dream” and performances by incredible artists. Dining was a pleasure, with options ranging from quick hot dogs to gourmet meals.

Picton New Zealand 1 Day 3: Exploring Picton

Our first port of call was Picton, nestled in the Marlborough Sounds. This charming town was a delight, with cozy cafes, art galleries, and unique shops around a picturesque harbor. We embraced the local life, visiting the fascinating floating maritime museum and aquarium. The adventurous ones among us tried fishing, dolphin watching, sea kayaking, and mountain biking.

Day 4: Art Deco in Napier

Napier New Zealand In Napier, Hawke’s Bay, we were captivated by the beautifully restored Art Deco architecture. Strolling through the city was like stepping back in time, with each building telling its own story of the past.

Day 5 & 6: The Heart of New Zealand – Wellington and Dunedin

Arriving in Wellington, we were swept up in its vibrant culture. The Te Papa Museum was a highlight, offering a deep dive into New Zealand’s history. The cable car ride and a walk through the botanical gardens were perfect for soaking in the city’s beauty.

Dunedin was a fusion of Scottish and Maori cultures. The stunning railway station and the wildlife-rich Otago Peninsula were breathtaking. We even tackled Baldwin Street, known for its steep incline.

Day 7: Cruising Through the Sounds

One of the most unforgettable experiences of our cruise aboard the Ovation of the Seas was navigating through the majestic sounds of Dusky, Doubtful, and Milford. Each sound presented was breathtaking leaving me in awe of New Zealand’s pristine wilderness.
Dusky Sound, remote and serene, greeted me with its tranquil waters, flanked by steep, forest-clad cliffs. As we sailed through, the sound’s isolated beauty, was profoundly moving.
Doubtful Sound, often shrouded in mist, offered quiet waters; surrounded by towering mountains, created a sense of awe-inspiring grandeur. The occasional sightings of dolphins added a magical touch to our journey through this mystical sound.
Milford Sound, arguably the most famous of the three, was a spectacle of dramatic beauty. Its iconic Mitre Peak rose majestically from the water, while numerous waterfalls, like the awe-inspiring Bowen Falls, cascaded down its sheer rock faces. The play of light on the water and the sheer cliffs provided an ever-changing landscape that was simply mesmerizing.
This cruise on the Ovation of the Seas was not just a journey through the ocean; it was an exploration of the extraordinary beauty of New Zealand’s natural landscapes. The luxurious amenities of the ship, combined with the captivating beauty of the sounds, made for a truly unique experience. It was a voyage that enriched our lives with unforgettable memories and stunning sights.
