How not to catch a plane My Singapore Journey

Bangkok – Singapore

As someone who thrives on organization and having everything just so, my recent travel fiasco to Singapore was, well, a bit of an eye-opener. Here I am, travelling through Southeast Asia, and I needed to zip over to Singapore to attend to some engagements and work-related opportunities.

Now, picture this: I’m all about organisation. Booked a driver from Jomtien to the airport, a nice early start at 7 AM for a leisurely noon flight. I’m admiring the scenery, blissfully unaware, until – bam! – an email from Scoot. Due to operational requirements, our flight’s delayed by a whopping 7 hours and 5 minutes. There I was, staring at my phone in disbelief, wondering what on earth we’d do hanging around Bangkok airport’s check-in area for that long

On arriving at the airport a burst of lateral thinking, I approached the Scoot counter. A polite young man informed us of an earlier flight leaving in 55 minutes. I asked him can we make it of course mam. “Great,” I thought, “no sweat!” Oh, how naive I was.

Security check: a chaotic queue. Laptop, phone, out they go. Then, my Skechers – off they come. But wait, there’s more! My new Titanium Knees” set off alarms like a Christmas light show. After a thorough bag examination (every charger, every cable), and a near-miss with leaving my shoes behind, we’re down to 26 minutes before take-off.

Immigration was a breeze, comparatively. But then, the gate – a 13-minute sprint away. Remember, I’m not exactly Usain Bolt with my shiny new knees. Panic set in. My husband, part-savior, part-speed coach, is dragging me through the airport. Halfway there, a miracle – a Scootie radios ahead that we’re en route.

Ever been the last one on a plane? It’s like a walk of shame, but with more panting and less partying. But we made it! The pilot somehow magically made up for lost time. We landed in Singapore, ready to unwind.

Would I do it again? Not on your life. But hey, it makes for a good story. Here’s to life’s unexpected sprints – literally! Love MyLifestyle.
